Thank you for reading my blog posts and stopping by The Crafty Expat!

I’m Rita, 35, and I was born and raised in Montreal from Lebanese parents.  French is my first language and I also speak Arabic.  Although I had a basic concept of English, I learned this language when I came to live in Australia.

Back in Canada, I practiced as a criminal lawyer for four years until a holiday to Italy in 2006 changed the course of my life.

I now reside in Melbourne since 2009 and married the man of my dreams in March 2010.

I returned to University and completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism with Distinction in November 2011 at RMIT University.  Studying journalism was a lifelong dream of mine.

I’m a dreamer, a lover of all sorts of things and an optimist about life in general.

This blog started in May 2012.  I felt isolated.  I had only a few friends in Melbourne and I missed my family and loved ones back in Montreal.  I needed something to connect with others.  I also wanted to continue practicing all the things I had learned in my Post-Graduate.  I thought I’d give blogging a go and I absolutely loved it!

At the beginning, The Crafty Expat was mainly a platform where I could share about my knitting and my crafts with some posts about my general thoughts about life.

Now, as I finally know what I want to do when I grow up, being a published author, and as I rediscovered my passion for writing and reading, this blog will be more focused on my love for words.

I’m now editing my manuscript and work towards the goal of publishing it one day.  I’m a newbie in the world of writing, editing and publishing and I’m learning every day.

But, I also love cooking, knitting, scrapbooking and all sorts of different crafts so you will always find posts about these hobbies at The Crafty Expat.

As for the Expat part, even though I’m now a proud Australian Citizen, I will always be French Canadian at heart.

This blog would mean nothing without your contribution so, thank you again for being here and I would love to hear from you as I think everyone has an extraordinary story to tell.

Please feel free to contact me.
